Last Thursday we went strawberry picking at Indian Head Farm in Berlin (about 8 minutes from our house). Kendall managed to stay in the wagon for a little while before getting antsy and wanting out. Of course since she's still not walking yet that meant mommy had to hold her or put her in the dirt to crawl around. Fun stuff on a hot humid day. Tyler was done in about 15 minutes.I think what happened was he basically got full from taking bites of ALL the strawberries and figured he was done when his belly was full. He went back to the wagon and waited for mommy to finish the photo-op with Kendall. Now what I learned is fresh picked Strawberries are not the same as the ones you buy in the store. Who would have thought they would have been that much better. I wish I would have picked some strawberries myself but instead when we got home I just ended up eating the rest of Tyler's half eaten berries. Now our little Kendall doesn't like any fruit but banana's and watermelon and I've tried to get her to eat strawberries on several occasions but no such luck she's a weirdo just like her daddy. But at the farm on Thursday she did eventually try one and I think she actually liked it! Maybe we'll have to go again.
We just want to wish Joey a Happy Birthday! I can't believe he's 8 already. Where as the time gone? He's turning into quite the superstar and we just want to tell him we're so proud. Happy Birthday Joey!
Daddy thought we'd try and save some money by buying some clippers so we (he) could cut Tyler's hair at home. Tyler's never once let anyone come near him with clippers so I have to say we were very proud of him that he let Daddy do some buzzing. And when I say buzzing I mean BUZZ. I guess it's not bad for daddy's first try but let me just say this I'm glad it's not Tyler's first haircut or I may have been brought to tears. But to daddy's defense, Tyler did say he liked it. Nevertheless Kendall and mommy are staying clear of daddy and his clippers!
Just as I said wonderful things to our mother's out there, I want to say wonderful things to our Father's out there. Without these great men, my life wouldn't be half as nice as it is. I feel so very lucky to have my dad as a father. I'll never forget all his support with my ballet, gymnastics, softball, etc. I don't think he ever once missed a softball game. I was just reminiscing to a friend of mine about birthday parties and how one year I really wanted to hand out goody bags to all my friends that included all this stuff from "Hello Kitty". Here was this single dad putting tiny pencils, stickers & erasers into these little bags and tying each one with a ribbon to give to about 10 little girls. What a sport. He did so many wonderful things that I can't even list them all but I hope he knows how much I truly appreciate him because I think it was he who made me the woman I am today. I also feel blessed to have the father in-law that I have. He obviously has been a great role model to Kevin and raised a great son amongst all those girls. Which leads me to Kevin. I couldn't ask for a better father to our children. Tyler and him are complete buds. When Kevin is around I pretty much don't matter. And that's OK because I love seeing how close their relationship is already. Kevin is my biggest support, without him I wouldn't get to do all the fun things I do with the friends I've made through this journey into motherhood. So thank you to all the dads in my life!
So this Father's day Kevin had it "real good". He got to share his breakfast with Tyler then open a couple of handmade gifts from the kids. Then he and Tyler went to Home Depot and then the grocery store. Hey it doesn't get much better than that does it? He is actually taking a nap as I write this.
I also want to shout-out a little Happy Birthday to Kevin's sister Kari. I hope she is having a wonderful day! Happy Birthday Kari!
We thought it would be nice to get the kids out of the heat and head indoors for some playtime. So we went to a place called Playtown express with our friend Hailey (and Hailey's mom). No one else was thinking this because the place was empty except for us. We still had a blast. These indoor play places are not just great for the winter months but great for summer when its sweltering outside. Plus with Kendall not yet walking we don't like taking her to the park where she can just eat all the mulch and sand. Anyway like I said Kendall still isn't walking yet but she's really getting the hang of the push cars and we actually got her to stand for a good 5-10 seconds on her own. Maybe she's getting close? Tyler had a blast on this little motorized train they had until he fell over and said they needed to buy a new one.
Kendall caught on pretty fast and figured out how it worked too. The bounce houses were a big hit too with the kids. Kendall was jumping around so much that her rubber band fell off but we liked the Mohawk!
With the temperatures in the high 90's these past few days I've seriously wondered was it really THAT cold this past winter? How can someplace be so dry and cold in the winter and be so hot and humid in the summer. I feel like we went from living in the Antarctic to living in the tropics. But don't get me wrong I'm loving this heat and I have to say it's really pretty out here in the summer; everything is lush and green. I've already been laying out trying to get my California tan back. I'm sweating buckets while I'm out there but I just think I better enjoy this now because in three short months the weather will change again and before I know it the deck will be full of snow. We had the kids outside the other day enjoying the "pool" not quite the same as the one we had back in Livermore but the kids don't seem to mind.
Today was Tyler's swim lessons. It's sort of like organized chaos except there isn't any organization. Tyler loves going to the "lessons" every week but all he wants to do is jump off the side and then climb out to jump right back in again.
I think he could do this all day. He even wanted to go off the diving board but the lifeguards wouldn't let him.
We bought this very cool body glove swim float so he can really swim by himself. All the while Kendall just sat and watched big brother. I really miss our pool in Livermore now.
