Well today was probably our first and last beach day of the summer. Ocean beach days anyway. There are plenty of lake beaches in Indiana so we won't be want for water. However, school pretty much starts as soon as we get back there. I think we're going to have to plan some warm beachy vacations in our future. Anyway we had a great time today . . .

Baby Face

Kendall had her recital today for Tap. They did the song Baby Face. It was super cute, though I will say I was a bit disappointed in the number of girls doing the dance. We had 15, I think that's too many but whatever it's preschool dance. Anyway our little star shone bright! Congratulations Kendall on a job well done. Here is she is backstage:

New Rat Pack Member

Meet Tyler, the newest Rat Pack member, he doesn't smoke, he doesn't drink but he plays piano like no ones business. Today he had his second recital and he played Frieda's Flowers. Sinatra played that right? Anyway Tyler did great, I have the video but don't have the flip software on my new computer so I need to figure a way to download it. You can't really see him anyway but you can hear his music. He said he "wasn't nervous at all, not a bit!"

Memorial Day--The Kick off to Summer!

Today was the Boylston Memorial Day Parade. We went last minute because we didn't think we'd be able to go since it was thundering a bit this morning and rained. But it cleared up just in time for the parade so we headed on down. Tyler was supposed to walk in the parade with his T-Ball team but he said "I want to get candy, not give it out" So we stayed on the sidelines and grabbed what candy we could. We actually didn't stay long for the festivities because daddy (and I) forgot to bring cash and there isn't a bank in town. So we hit the mall for lunch, bought some new water shoes and broke out the sprinkler for some summer fun! We went from 50 degree days to 80-90 degree days. I love it! But it is hot......

Take Me Out to the T-Ball Game

Tyler had a great game today. I missed last weeks because of our surprise trip to Indiana, but I was there today on the bright sunny and hot/humid day. We at least beat the thunderstorms today. It was so cute watching them out there. The one thing that Tyler did that cracked me up was when he was running from second to third to home instead of running home he just ran right into the dugout from third base. Cracked me up we had to say "No Tyler run to home, you have to touch home base first!" And when he "touched" home base he would bend down and touch it with his hand. The couch had to clarify that he just had to touch it with his foot. So cute! He did well, getting two hits and he even got to play first base for awhile. Fun times!

T-Ball Tyler

We've been so busy that I haven't blogged about Opening Ceremonies for T-Ball. Tyler is enjoying it, we missed his first practice but I heard he had fun and then last Saturday was the opening ceremonies which consists of getting their team pictures, parade, & cookout. Not too exciting. If it doesn't rain today then we will have another practice today and maybe I can get some pictures of Tyler in action. So without further ado let me introduce you to a Lugnut!

First Field Trip

Tyler had his first field trip on the bus the other day (we've been so busy I haven't had time to blog but I'll do this one and then tomorrow look for our T-Ball post) He was so excited to take the bus and I was allowed to go too. They went to the Worcester Art Museum, and though they got to look at some art and make their own art, I think the highlight of the trip was the bus ride!

Today the kids started golf. Golf is one of Tyler's favorite sports. He did it last spring and since the snow has melted he's even practiced in the front yard. The ages are from 4-7 I think so I asked Kendall if she wanted to play too. Of course she did. She is never one to turn down an activity. They had a blast and Kendall says to me "I'm good at this!" Hmm I don't know how good she is but she had fun and that's all I hope for. After an hour of hitting the balls, class was over and Tyler said "that was fast" Time flies when you're having fun!

Today Tyler had a little Tea Party at his Preschool Enrichment class. This is Tyler's favorite class. They've been learning nursey rhymes this week and so they did a little skit. Tyler was Jack from Jack and Jill. He was so proud, as was I!

Curious George

This past weekend, we got to take home George. Everyone in Tyler's class gets a chance. Of course Tyler was student number 16 so he's been waiting quite awhile and he was SO excited when it was finally his turn. He has said he's going to miss having George but I assured him that Kendall will get him next year so he'll be back.

American Girl

Today Kendall and I had a little girls lunch with one of our friends. We headed over to American Girl which has many people know its the new hot item for kids. They've actually been around for quite awhile. Looking at all the dolls, I feel like you can compare it a bit to the cabbage patch craze. Remember that? I'm pretty sure those dolls weren't $25 then like they are now. Anyway I'm pretty sure that eventually I will get her an American Girl. They are cute! (way cuter than cabbage patch) Anyway we lunched with a borrowed doll Ruthie and Kendall whispered to me on the way out that Ruthie didn't want to stay there. I said where does she want to go? She whispers back "home with me"

The kids had a great day today showing off their new green clothes. I felt like the worse mommy though because no leprechauns visited our house. Tyler informed me some kid at school said these creatures visited his house and left gold coins. I told Tyler that leprechauns only come to your house when you're bad. I said "you don't want their fake money, they mess your house up and steal your toys, those are tricky little guys" He said . . . Today was the first of I hope many 5k race/runs! I ran with my friend Janice and I think we both had a great time. I think we need to do another or two before our half marathon in May. Janice is such a great running buddy and I'm so glad we live close to train and do these things together! Thanks Janice for the fun! Let's Play Ball

Tyler and Kendall started their T-Ball Skills class today. Kendall was so excited to be doing something that Tyler was doing. And Tyler just loved "helping" her. I could sort of see how he paid a bit more attention in class except he was a little too concerned with Kendall. She can pretty much hold her own and doesn't always like all of Tyler's attention. But they were so cute together. He wouldn't leave her side and when it was his turn to bat he waved to her and then made an effort to hit the balls to her. I think they are so fortunate to have each other. Even if they do want to wring each others neck sometimes.

Tyler had his first testing in Karate today. It was a long 2 hours and 45 minutes class/test. Tyler was a little restless by the end. Oh who am I kidding he was restless from the get go. Karate is not his favorite but he does it and tries(a little). He used to LOVE Karate when he was younger but now he could pretty much leave it. We'd like him to continue for a little while longer because it's such a great discipline in teaching kids to listen, pay attention and have respect for yourself and others. (Kevin fears he might have a touch of ADD because he just day dreams a lot and doesn't really pay attention when he's supposed to! I think he might just be your average 5 year old boy) Anyway I think the Sensei is great at having a little fun (Tyler loves when he's silly) with the kids but also strict enough to make sure they behave and are respectful. I'm not sure how much longer Tyler will remain in Karate but I do know Kendall can't wait to start. She has to be 5 or maybe 4.5 so we will see if Tyler will maybe continue once Kendall starts. But in any event he did pass his test today. He did his Kata, Taikyoku Shodan and thankfully there was this other little girl testing too that really knew it so he sort of followed her. He actually wasn't that happy about "wining" as he said. I think he wanted to remain a white belt because they don't get knocked over in class when they do the wrong stance. But he felt a little bit better about his new belt when he learned as he stays in Karate he can get a collection of belts. Anyway congratulation Tyler on a job well done today, we thank you for trying to put an effort into something even if it's not your favorite.

Well it's done! 365 Days and I've taken a picture every one of them. I took the kids out this morning for our final photo shoot of the year. I've told them that tomorrow I don't think I'll take a picture at all! They yelled and kissed me saying "thank you!" I guess we all need a break. But it has been a learning experience and I'm glad I did it. Though I probably won't do it again. Maybe an abbreviated version next year like once a week or something like that. I don't know I'm not committing myself to anything for awhile. Anyway feel free to take a look though all the old photos (which can be viewed on Face book) Its fun to see the transformation in my work. Anyway here is to today, the end of one thing but I have a feeling just the beginning of something else! Happy New Year everyone!

We had a lovely Christmas. It started with leaving Santa a Coke and cookies. Then little Santa helpers had to get busy putting together Barbie house, bunk beds, keyboard stand and puppet theatre. The kids woke and were very surprised by all the great gifts they received. Tyler was the most surprised because he said to me "I can't believe Kendall got so many presents because she really wasn't that good this year" I had to explain that one. Saying Santa knows that Kendall has the potential to be a good girl and that she's just going through a stage since she's three. So yes the kids were spoiled and I think got everything they wanted and then some. Mommy was spoiled too because Daddy got me an iPad which I really wanted but didn't think I would get at all. And even Jack got a new bed! Oh and Daddy got a new iPhone 4. Anyway lots of fun was had and as I type we are getting ready for this winter blizzard to lighten up so we can go out and build a snowman! Merry Christmas to everyone!

Constructing Gingerbread

Today the kids made gingerbread peeps and a gingerbread Santa Village. I don't know why my gingerbread houses never look like the box it comes in but at least this year it all turned out a bit better than last year. Enjoy the fruits of our labor!

Finally Snow

We finally got some snow! Not much but a little. I can't believe we haven't had any measurable snow since early March. I wanted a white Christmas but I guess I'll have to settle with what we got. Hoping the snow doesn't melt between now and Saturday! So the kids had a blast checking it out today. Of course Tyler was too busy shovelling to let me get any pictures of him! And yes my kids were outside without a jacket on. (they were only on the deck for a bit) But they did have snow boots on!

We Heart NY!

This is our 2nd year going to New York during this week for a few days. Ahh what a difference a year makes. Last year was fun but it was oh so hard. Kendall was only 2 1/2 and a stroller in the city is not fun! This year the kids being a little older and it being a little warmer (35 degrees instead of 20 last year) made this year more fun than last. We arrived at the Marriott Marquee right in the heart of Times Square Wednesday and Daddy had to work but we didn't need him to tour the city ourselves. So after room service dinner the kids wanted to go for a walk. So a walk we did. We headed over to Rockefeller Center and saw the Christmas Tree and the people ice skating. It was a brisk 22 degrees I think. But the kids did great. Thursday morning we were up and ready to tackle some more of the city so we headed to the Museum of National History. It wasn't too crowded either except for some school groups. There for awhile we had the whole dinosaur floor to ourselves. Then after the museum the kids wanted to head over to the Park. Central Park is right across the street from the museum so we headed over. I'd love to take the kids back in the summer when they can fully enjoy it. Tyler was having fun but it wasn't long before Kendall said she wanted a taxi back to the hotel. That's right we took taxi's. I asked the cab driver what people did who lived there and he laughed and said they did just what I did. Put their kids in the cab fasten seat belts and hope for the best (that last part is my interpretation). Friday we walked to Grand Central Station (which Kendall didn't like because she thought it smelled "yuck" inside. On our walk back to the hotel we also stopped at the NY Public Library. Beautiful building but I wasn't too impressed with the children's room. Daddy came out with us Friday night so we headed over to Toy's R Us before dinner and rode the Ferris wheel and picked up a toy or two. We also briefly saw the Naked Cowboy too. We had heard he retired but I guess not, he did cut his hair though. Anyway here are some pictures of our trip. We can't wait to go again next year and hopefully we'll be back out there in the summer some time.

Dear Santa . . .

Yesterday we "wrote" our letters to Santa. This consisted of cutting out pictures and taping to paper. As you can see writing a letter to Santa is serious business.
So if you are wondering what is on the list? Kendall asked for bunk beds and two American Girl dolls. (I hope she's good with generic) and Tyler asked for a robot, shop vac & a puppet theatre. And we have to e-mail Santa a list of all the batman bad guys to go with his oh so loved Bat Cave. (he couldn't part with the pictures of those).

O Christmas Tree O Christmas Tree, Now We Have 3!

Today we went to a tree farm that one of our friends went to because it looked like so much fun. We cut down our own tree for the kids playroom. They will be able to decorate it however they want. We were surprised to see Santa was also there. When I asked Tyler what he was going to ask Santa for his eyes got real big and said "oh I forgot the list!" Then when they sat on Santa's lap, Tyler just froze into a smile and he couldn't talk or anything. So cute. So we went on a hair ride, met Santa, had some hot cocoa and candy canes, then cut down our tree. We had a great time and plan to go back again next year. Tree's also don't seem to cost as much as they do in California. Kevin and I used to spend $100 plus on a tree which was why we originally bought a fake one. But out here I'm seeing them from $25-50. Anyway hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!

Gobble Gobble

We had a lovely Thanksgiving day! It's the one day a year that I actually cook. And I'm reminded why I don't cook more often. I hate to cook. I can cook, but I'm no cook. Though Tyler did tell me that I was a really good chef today. That means a lot coming from two kids that never really eat! Anyway our menu consisted of a Cheddar-Bacon Biscuits, Cider Bourbon-Glazed Roast Turkey (which was brine then Roasted) I have to say I do make a mean turkey! Sausage-Leek Corn Bread Stuffing, Buttermilk-Chive Mashed Potatoes, Pumpkin Pecan Butter Pie (bad mommy forgot Tyler isn't supposed to have tree nuts but he had this same pie last year so we did it again and he was fine) and Apple Pocket Pies (this will probably be breakfast tomorrow morning). Anyway the food was a hit so it was all good. Here are some moments from our day! I even managed to get in some. Enjoy!

Tyler Had a Little Lamb

This afternoon was Tyler's first piano recital. Tyler had been asking to play piano for awhile so about a month before he turned 5 we were able to get him into a "group" lesson. The great thing though is there are no other kids in his group so he's getting private lessons. Tyler has always loved music and I think all those early months of watching Baby Einstein Video's paid off! He played Mary Had A Little Lamb with his right hand and then his left. We are so proud of him. I was definitely more nervous than he was and when he was done he said "I did really good!" Yes you did Tyler, yes you did!

Soccer + Hockey = Tired Tyler!

Today Tyler had his first Hockey experience; unfortunately the start of that session was also the last day of Soccer so we did both so he could get his soccer trophy which he loved. He's never gotten a trophy before so he was SO excited for it. So Tyler played a great game of soccer and then we headed over to the ice rink where Tyler again was a great sport. I wasn't sure how he would do because even though he can skate he's a little slow. But now he had to skate with a bunch of gear on and a stick so he had a whole new set of problems. He was a trooper though. He never once complained and at first he couldn't get up after falling down but by the end of the class he could. He came off the ice with a big smile and a thumbs up. Saying "Hockey was so much fun!" But we're thinking he's not quite ready for this class the other kids were way bigger and faster. There was one other kid like Tyler and the coach said we could leave them in the hockey class or put them back in a Learn to Skate class but with full hockey garb on. That's what we are going to do. Tyler needs a little more practice skating with all that crap on and hopefully by next session (or next year) he'll be ready to move on with the bigger kids. The important thing, Tyler had a blast, loves wearing all the hockey stuff (he said he looked like a transformer) and can't wait to go again. He made us so proud, he never gave up trying even with all the big kids skating around him and it didn't make him discouraged to try again. Can't wait to watch him progress this year.

Tricker Treat

So we had a little aquatic theme going on here and our little trickers were a shark and a mermaid. They really enjoyed themselves this year saying it was the best Halloween ever. I think it was the first Halloween where they really understood what was going. Tyler even said before we went out (we did a little trial) "we should say thank you when they give us candy" Yes you should Tyler! We went out early (4:45) and did about 10 houses and the kids thought that was fantastic. Anyway here are some pics from our evening.

Carv'n a Pumpk'n

Today we finally headed over to the local farm stand to see if they had any Big pumpkins to carve. There wasn't much left but we got a good one. We also picked up some yummy apple cider donuts (just like my grandma used to make). The we carved, well I say we but really daddy did it and I took pictures and the kids helped a bit. We're looking forward to tomorrow and our trick or treating fun.

A Happy Happy Birthday

I can't believe my first born has turned 5! Where is the time going, SLOW DOWN! This year Tyler agreed to having no party and instead he would have a shopping spree at Toys R Us, a family (i.e the 4 of us) dinner at Chuck E Cheese and a night at a hotel in Boston. We did the night in Boston last Saturday and today we celebrated with his trip to the land of toys and Chuck's Pizza. He loved his "party" and his space rocket cake. He said it was the best day ever! For a kid who doesn't ask for much, you just want to give him the world. I'm so lucky to have a son like him and I hope he continues to grow into a fine man that I know one day he will become, Happy Birthday little man!

We Like to Pick Pick Pick

So as you can probably gather from all our fruit picking posts the kids like to pick fruit. I think we've ended the season with pumpkins. Though we might have to try and hit up another place for a big pumpkin. For some reason out here in the middle of farm country there are no good pumpkin patches. Pumpkins are everywhere put that's just it, you just go to the local farm stand and pick your pumpkin. What kind of photo op is that? Anyway I was hoping Davis Farmland was going to have a great pumpkin patch so I took the kids and it was lame. But the kids got to pick their tiny little sugar pumpkins and it was all good. So here they are!

Picking with the Class

On Wednesday we went on the annual field trip to Tougas Farm to pick more apples and pumpkins. This year both Tyler and Kendall had the same trip on the same day. Tyler of course wanted to hang with his class and Kendall wanted to be with her class. And the teachers preferred each kid stay in their own class. Mommy can only be in one place at a time so I stayed with Kendall since she is younger. But I was bummed because this was the first year I didn't get to take pictures of Tyler with his class, mainly I wanted to take pictures of him picking out his pumpkin because Kendall basically just picked the first one she saw and said "this one" I could see Tyler from a far (he was picking his pumpkin when Kendall's class was still picking apples) and he was really checking them all out. Apple Picking (very creative title I know)

Today we went Apple picking. I acquaint apple picking with fall so I think I have to grasp the notion that fall is here and summer days are long gone. We went to Schartner Farm which we've been to the past three years because we sort of know them through the mom's club. This year though jeez the farm as completely grown from cute quaint family farm to almost commercial status. Good for them. They have a corn maze, pony rides and a pumpkin patch. We only did the apple picking and of course Tyler was mad that I didn't let him do the corn maze. So we may be back. The kids enjoy apple picking so of course we had great time We just wish daddy could have come but he is in Malaysia for two weeks so we are on our own.

Finall School Starts

So we finally started school on Monday. It felt like a long time coming since a lot of our friends started weeks ago. I couldn't believe it, this year I purposely bought shorts for the first few days of school because it's always hot and this time, it was actually cool just like school should be. Good thing I had a back-up plan. Next year note to self be prepared for rain and/or sunshine! Funny thing Kendall's shoes kept coming off but just like any other woman when I asked if she wanted to change her shoes because those were too big she said "no, these are my beautiful shoes".

Lost and Found

So the other day we did our annual pilgrimage to Edaville. Thomas the Train was there and its such a great fun family park. We always have so much fun. Except this time Kendall walked away and gave us all a great scare. Luckily she was found and all was right again. I'd like to think she learned her lesson but I doubt it. I think this little girl is going to give us a run for our money. I guess if she didn't learn her lesson I sure in the hell did. It Would Be Perfect if it Were Pink

So I had the opportunity to get Kendall a little Tractor like Tyler's (but smaller). I asked Kendall if she'd like one because really she hasn't shown much interest in Tyler's. The first thing she asked was "Is it pink?" I said no it's green just like Tyler's. "NO I DON'T LIKE GREEN, I only like PINK" Ok pinkilicious! Anyway I knew she'd like it anyway so I picked it up and it's so perfect for her because it's small. We had a little bumper tractors at first then she got the hang of it. It doesn't go up hills on grass like Tyler's does so she got stuck a few times following him but needless to say I think it was a hit.

Mini Putt Putt

Today I took the kids to Kimball Farms which is in Westford and only 30 minutes from us. Why have I not been here before? It's a great place and I see us going many times over the next summers as the kids get older. We just went to the mini-golf area but they have batting gages, food, arcades, hot air balloon rides (we didn't see this though), driving range and animals (didn't really see these either except for some stray rosters). The kids had so much fun mini-golfing that they can't wait to go again.

A Celebration of Life

This past week, I went to the funeral of my cousin Andrew Therrien (or Celebration of Life as my other cousin, his brother wanted it referred to). It's just awful what happened. It was all over the news in Southern California and my hometown of Riverside, CA. He was at an off road race and a race truck flipped and took the lives of 8 people and injured many. Surprisingly these races have few accidents like this and this was just a freak thing. Yes they were probably too close and maybe the truck was going a bit too fast with that many fans around but what's done is done and that's sort of the nature of these races. Andrew was a thrill seeker and loved life, he's been on motorcycles since he was three and had been going to these things since he was very young. What's amazing about this incident though was that it all happened so fast that nobody had time to think but Andrew instinctively threw three people out of the way before the truck got him. The Father of one of those people talked and I could just tell how much he owed not only his sons life but his own to Andrew because how different would his Monday have been had his son not been there to start his first day of 3rd grade. My heart goes out to all those who knew and loved Andrew, his father, mother & brother. I know what it's like to lose a sibling in fact my sister was the same age as Andrew, 22 when her life was taken from her. At least Andrew died doing something he loved and saving the lives of three others including his own daughter. It breaks my heart that she will never know her father (especially since he was doing his best to be a single dad) but I'm glad she'll get the stories of what a hero he was to so many and how his life changed the lives of others.

Mystic

Today I took the kids down to the Mystic aquarium where we had a blast with friends. I couldn't believe how much Tyler actually liked it. It is a great place but it's about 1 1/2 hour drive. Which isn't a big deal for me but usually the kids never want to go someplace again if it's over 30-45 minutes away. Tyler didn't care that it was a long drive, he wants to go again and soon. Maybe next time we'll hit Mystic Pizza too.

I Think I'd Rather Pay

Today we embraced what they have here as Free Friday Fun days (or something like that) Basically every other Friday they have free admission to some cool place the kids love. Today was Sturbridge Village. Some sort of colonial village thing and was actually sort of neat except because it was free it was a mad house today. It was so crowded (not Disneyland crowded, but for what it is pretty freaking crowded). The kids still seemed to enjoy it but we didn't go on any of the "rides" because the lines were ridiculous for what the "ride" entailed. I still have my new macro lens attached to my camera so I didn't get as many good pictures as I would have liked but I took a few close-ups (that's really all the lens is good for). And processed most of them in a little sweet vintage.

Wildflowers and Raspberries

Today the kids wanted to go raspberry picking but the place Tyler wanted to go didn't have any pick your own yet but they did have pick your own flowers. So we did that first and then headed to the other pick your own farm and picked us up some yummy raspberries. I have to say I think the kids are quite the good farmhands. Well except they eat a lot of the crop. Both kids ate so many raspberries while picking that they weren't hungry for lunch and were a bit sick of raspberries.

Cape Cod

We finally did a little 3 day stay on Cape Cod. We stayed in South Yarmouth at a place that had a private beach and two pools plus a kiddie pool. You wouldn't guess by the pictures but we were probably on the beach a total of 10 minutes the whole stay. The kids only wanted to be at the pool, never mind that they can go to a pool anytime they want. Anyway I attempted to take our family pictures while we were there too but you'll have to keep your eyes out for those on Facebook in two weeks or an e-mail with the password for the slide show. Anyway here are a couple snapshots from our little vacay. We obviously had fun and were tuckered out as you can see from Kendall falling asleep mid-snack intake. She couldn't even be bothered to take her hand out of the Cheetos bag.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Today we went to the Futures at Fenway which is basically a double hitter of two minor teams in Boston. The kids didn't care that is wasn't the Red Sox. We had fabulous seats (about 10 rows up from the 3rd base line and probablyonly 5 from the dugout). It was a little hot at first. We had hot dogs and ice cream and watched one of the baseball players propose to his girlfriend on the large jumbo tron! That's right. I didn't think that ever really happened but sure enough it was a well thought out plan. She was answering trivia and when they said you get to pick prize A or B, she picked A and on the screen it said "Loula, will you marry me" I was like OMG, how cheesy, then I looked down and saw the baseball player on his knees with a ring and it was sort of cute. Good for them. Anyway then the rain came and we ran to our car like no tomorrow. It was like running through a shower it was raining so hard. But we had a good time and I was glad to finally see Fenway.

Today we went and did a little blueberry picking at Tougas Farm. It was so flipping hot, now I don't mind the heat at all but the humidity is pretty bad. Anyway I can't believe how great the kids did, they are great little laborers! We picked 3lbs together. Which means we each picked 1 lb each. Of course we all probably ate just as much. I think every picture Kendall has some berries in her mouth. I was just as guilty though too. There is nothing like sweet fruit off the tree. YUM! I wonder how long it will take us to eat them all, probably not long.

Boston on the 4th

Well we didn't make it to the fireworks in Boston because they started so late but we had fun exploring the city for a little bit with the kids during the day. They love the city and I took the opportunity to do a little "urban photo shoot". Most of these were all done in a fun "soft urban" process.

That's right we went and watched our (well Tyler's & Kendall's) first firework show in the neighboring town last night. We are going into Boston tomorrow but we are not sure if we'll be watching the firework show because it doesn't start until 10:30. So we went to Worcester and had a blast. The kids really enjoyed themselves and even though we're all a little bit tired today it was well worth it. Anyway here are some pics of our 2nd of July celebration! Happy Birthday America!

Creative Adventures

So today we finally got our playground. We got it from a place called Creative Playthings and Tyler was enjoying himself until he asked if we got it from Backyard Adventures (another playground place we looked at) I said no from CP. He said "ahh" (all disappointed) I'm like what's wrong now? He tells me the other playground meant he'd have adventures. I had to explain that all playgrounds provide adventures in your backyard but its YOU that has to be creative with your playthings. He got a big smile and that answer seemed to suffice. Going to Pick Some Juicy Ones

Summer is the start to fruit picking and we usually start it off with Strawberries. The kids did great this year. Tyler was a little bored after awhile it was hot and humid out there. Kendall actually picked and put the strawberries in her basket which is far different than what she did last year. Of course we still tasted them because there is nothing better than fresh fruit off the vines. yum....

Well we've had three days of dance in a row, first was the dress rehearsal where Kendall got her first trophy (perfect attendance). Then we had stage rehearsal the following day (and let me tell you Kendall was pooped at the end of this day, we were driving home and she was eating lunchables for dinner and I turned to check on her and she had a piece of cheese half way into her mouth and she was passed out) and then on Saturday was the big day! Kendall did wonderful I can't wait to get the DVD. I did see it from behind the stage. When Kendall did her finale, she took a little fall but she got right back up and continued her salute and dance. She really enjoyed herself this year and we look forward to next year too.

Now Sunday! We celebrated not only Father's Day like everyone else but Kevin's Birthday too. I think he turned 4. (times 11 I guess) I don't think he reads this so I'll spare the "oh what a wonderful dad blah blah blah, because I told him all that in person today. But I will say we sure do miss our dads (and papa's) We've been blessed with such a wonderful caring family that I couldn't ask for anything more. Happy Father's day!

And before I forget we also finished up Tyler's football on Sunday. He had some good runs today without anyone getting his flags.

Giddy Up!

Today I took the kids for their first riding lesson. Tyler actually learned to stop the horse by himself. I was informed by Tyler he had "too much fun." He kept telling the instructor that he wanted to go riding everyday. And though Kendall was a bit scared at first she warmed up and went "riding" too. Kendall was scared at first because their horse, Clyde, kept sneezing in the stable when they were brushing him so I guess that freaked her out but after riding him outdoors she was willing to brush him again afterward. Tyler doesn't want mommy to get another dog but he asked if we could get a horse instead. hmmm I don't think so but I'd rather he ask for a horse than some rodent. Anyway I plan to take the kids for a few more lessons this summer, they had so much fun.

Forward March

Oh who loves a parade? We went to our annual Memorial Parade in our town center for the holiday. The kids love it mainly because when the town softball/baseball leagues come through candy is thrown out and all hell breaks loose for a chance to grab it. I'm waiting for the day the kids get knocked upside the head with it. In fact one of the little girls in our group did get hit. But no one seemed to notice in the mad rush to get more candy. Anyway we parked in the same place we do every year, Kendall Place. We walked (Kendall danced) around the common for a bit and then the kids went on a couple bounce houses. Then we sat with our friends and waited and waited and waited for the parade to start. Once it started the kids waved to the firetrucks and ran for candy (I ducked). Within 5 minutes the parade was over (OK a bit longer but not much) we went and had lunch in the common. Little did we know they started the ceremonies right where we sat so we had front row seats to the firing of the guns from the guys in their period peace costumes. When the guns were about to go off I told Tyler it's going to be loud, Kendall covered her ears but Tyler just sat there and asked "why" then they went off and he jumped and just looked at me and said matter of fact "oh that scared me". I just said well they're going to do it again in a minute. This has become our little yearly tradition here and I really do love the small town feel our parade has. It's quite enjoyable. Tyler's Turn

OK so today was Tyler's turn at being a star. They had their show at the school and sang a little diddly then the teachers put together a slide presentation with all the pictures they had taken of the kids throughout the year. It was really nice. Tyler did an excellent job singing by which I mean he actually sang this time. I think he had fun and was really glad that we all (me, Kendall & Daddy) were able to come to his show. I can't believe the school year will be over next week! But unlike many of our friends Tyler will be remaining in Preschool for one more year. He doesn't make the cut-off out here so he gets another year of Lilliput which he is excited about.

Show Day

Kendall had her final show today for school. We met all the Tuesday, Thursday classes at Dean Park this morning. Boy was it a hot day. I think it was close to 90 with 101% humidity at 9am. I'm not complaining though. I still LOVE it. I'll take that over any day under 40. So anyway. Kendall got up and sang all her songs with her class. She actually sang and everything. Tyler didn't even sing when he had his show last year. I tried to video it but some other little brat I mean little boy was in front of her blocking my little girl's time to shine. ugh. :-) Anyway she had a great day, singing, running obstacle courses, eating snacks (this reminds me I need to do my annual watermelon pics soon), face painting and lots of other fun things.

I'm glad we (Tyler and I) got to be there for her "special day" as Tyler said.

New York! New York!

On Saturday I took a little bus ride down to New York with a couple of friends. It was a lot of fun.

We just stayed in the Times Square area because that's where we were dropped off and had lunch then went to a show and we didn't have much time to travel anywhere else. There is so much to see in NY and I hope eventually I'll get to see it all because honestly I'm getting a bit sick of Times Square. I really want to head over to Central Park again and also see Grand Central Station. I guess I'll just have to plan more visits! Anyway we did have a great time, the bus ride seemed short because we chatted away for 3 hours there and 3 hours back. We had lunch at a Druse restaurant which is basically Turkish food. We walked around a bit in Times Square, saw of course the Naked Cowboy!

Then went to the show Avenue Q. It was labeled as Sesame Street meets South Park and that's rightly identified. It's really funny.

We got a hot dog from a street vendor and cupcakes from a yummy bakery Crumbs and sat on the steps of St. Patrick's and enjoyed it all. That was our day in a nut shell. I can't wait to do it again.

No Girls Allowed!

Today Tyler came to me with a picture of a girl in a pink tutu with a circle and a line through it saying "I need you to write, 'no girls allowed in my room." I told him I wasn't going to write it but that he could. So we printed out a tracer page and he went to work.

As you can see Kendall wasn't too happy with this new "law." She stood there for a bit then got a sneaky look and went right in looking back at me saying "Tyler will never know!" And then slammed the door.

Of course Tyler did find out (she's a dead give away when she's in there jumping around). Tyler came up and booted her out. He thought he was being tricky by locking her out. But hey what's wrong with that picture? He's actually locking himself IN!

No Longer Off the Charts

So I don't know what happened within this past year with Kendall but she went from 90% in height to 43%. She only grew 1 inch this year. (or so it's charted) I find that hard to believe since I'm pretty sure her clothes have gotten shorter since the last time she went to the doctor but oh well. Now she's just average. She's almost 37 inches tall and weighs 29 lbs. Tyler was the exact same height at her age and weighed a couple of pounds more. Everything is looking good though so here is to another year of living healthy and well. I'll end with a couple of pictures from today's fun in the sun. It was in the 90's here today (yes it was 45 just 3 days ago). The kids told me they "had TOO much fun today"

The Next Payne Stewart

Today Tyler had his first ever golf lessons. He was so excited and looking forward to it. He got new clubs and everything (came with the package). And these are the real deal so he'll be able to go out with Daddy with these. Once the class started they immediately went out and started hitting balls.

Which was great because that's instant gratification for the kids. They started out with the iron and then the driver. Right now the class only had two 4 year old boys and one 7 year old girl. But I believe there are two more kids who are supposed to join the group. I'm just glad they didn't cancel it, which always seems to happen when we really like something. When the class was done Tyler asked if I would buy him a uniform for Golf. I tried to explain that golf didn't have a "uniform" but that his hats are a good start!

Busy busy weekend!

We had a jammed pack weekend. Friday was obviously Kendall's Birthday but Saturday was her party. We had a few friends over and had a simple party. Lots of balloons, a little bounce house and a yummy yummy cake. White chocolate raspberry mouse.

The local bakery by our house, The Bean Counter did a wonderful job copying the invites and turning it into a beautiful cake. I was really pleased. And I think Kendall liked it too because I caught her after the party sneaking more cake! When I approached her and told her she couldn't have anymore (after snatching a few pics) she told me "Mommy go to your office!" Smart girl knows if I'm not around to see her, she can't get in trouble.

Sunday Tyler started flag football. He was a little apprehensive at first. Telling me "I don't know about this" But once he got out there he was fine and caught on really well. He's number 9 and they were in blue to practice and then switched to white during the game. He had fun and we had fun watching him. He's looking forward to going back and playing some more.

Today Kendall turned 3 and she has been so excited because turning 3 now means she's a big girl. Or "big gill" as she says it (yes she has an accent!) Can you believe I didn't take many pictures today? Tomorrow is her party so I'm sure I'll make up for it.

Today Kendall had her first visit to the dentist and I guess she's been doing a wonderful job brushing because everything was perfect! She was very excited about her trip because this was just one more thing that makes her feel like a big girl now.

She couldn't have been better and quite the willing patient. She still hasn't gotten all her two year molars in yet so we're waiting on two more teeth. Late to get your teeth in basically means late to lose them. She also has a chip in one of her front teeth which I noticed almost a year ago when I was in Photoshop messing with a picture I took of her and sure enough the dentist noticed it too but said it was no big deal. Good thing since I waited a year to bring her in. I just never knew when she actually chipped it. Oh well, here are a few pictures from Kendall's morning.

Purgatory Chasm

I always wondered what purgatory was like and I guess I found it. Didn't seem so bad to me and the kids seemed to enjoy it too. Today we "hiked" (actually we walked and played hide & seek) at a place called Purgatory Chasm. It was a great place and I think we will be going again soon. Tyler wants to BBQ there sometime. It's a great place to picnic and hike around they have something for the big kids but there was something for the little kids too plus they have a brand new playground that the kids had a blast at. Day Full of Surprises

Kendall's teacher asked if I would like to come in and read a story to the class. So today was that day. Kendall's favorite story right now is Too Many Toys so that's the story I read. The kids seemed to enjoy it. Then because Kendall's birthday is next week, they sang Happy Birthday to her and gave her a crown. Mommy brought in Kendall's favorite snack (pudding) too so we shared with our school friends. Then I told both kids that today there was a big surprise awaiting for them after lunch. The first surprise was McDonald's for lunch and the second and best surprise ever (as Tyler told me) was our first trip to Davis Farmland this season. I can't even express how excited Tyler was when we pulled into the parking lot and he figured out that coming to Davis Farmland was the surprise. He was truly surprised and he couldn't have been happier.

Well as many of you know we are a bunch of heathens here so Easter for us just means Easter Bunny, candy and toys ! (commercialism at its finest) And boy was he nice to Tyler and Kendall. They got actual gifts this year instead of the usual crapola and candy. I figured why get them stuff they will throw away in a week instead get them stuff they will play with for at least a year or more. So off to Target with my coupons the Easter Bunny went. Each got an outfit, underwear, a new toothbrush, toothpaste, band aids (yes one was Barbie and one superman), movies (Tyler got Up and Kendall got Snow White), Barbies (Tyler got "Garbage truck Ken") and then Tyler got a talking Thomas Train and Fire Rescue Legos and Kendall got a dolly that says "Peekaboo" (I've turned her off for a bit) and a Tinkerbell Leapster cartridge. And the funny thing one was neither noticed their baskets sitting by the slider door, instead they ran to the door and yelled that they could see some eggs on the deck! I had to say "do you see anything else" and pointed it out to them at their feet. Then when they went through the bags they did love everything but the most treasured was the new toothbrushes! So easily pleased, I'm sure that won't last many more years. Anyway we went out for our hunt and then had a great Easter Brunch at a friend's house with other friends. It was such a nice day especially with the weather being 74 degrees! Anyway hope everyone had a wonderful Easter, we sure did.

Nothing Like the Last Minute . . .

. . . to step in line to visit the Easter Bunny, and that's what we did this Good Friday. Kendall has been very fresh lately so I told Tyler to tell the Easter Bunny how bad she's been and he said (while she was kicking, banging and screaming in her room) "Well I don't really want to tell him" I asked why. "Because then he might not bring her anything" and I said what's wrong with that she doesn't really deserve anything. "Yes, but I really like to see what she gets". hmmmm. Well if her attitude keeps up whatever the Easter Bunny does bring her will be taken away and returned. I have no idea how I will handle the teen years. Anyway they were both good for the Easter Bunny.

Well we spent the past 10 days in California visiting friends and family, seeing places like Sea World, Wild Animal Park, & Disneyland and enjoying all around wonderfully great weather. The kids had a great time too but Tyler would tell me that he missed Massachusetts because "California is too hot" Boy he doesn't know how hot it gets! Tonight we went for dinner at JJ's are favorite Kiddie Karaoke place.

The kids have been asking to go for quite some time. Finally we were able to meet some friends and go. Tyler got up and sang "You Are My Sunshine" and it was a huge success as you can see from one of the groupies head banging away to his song.

Kendall even got up and sang her ABC's and she wasn't shy at all. When they called her name she walked right up there by herself and grabbed the microphone from the girl. She knew what she was doing. They both wanted to go up and do more songs but it was quite busy with the tweeners doing Taylor Swift and a bunch of other stuff I don't know. Fun times ahead . . .

Kingpin

On Sunday we took the kids bowling, it was our little family day. It was fun playing together. The kids did great though they could hardly wait for their own turns.

The funniest thing was when Tyler would go up to bowl his turn, he would always turn to me before throwing his ball down the lane and wink at me. I didn't even know he could wink. Anyway a good time was had by all but I have to say I don't know when we'll go again at $60 I'm wondering when bowling got so expensive.

Fishy Fishy Cross the Pool

So I was thinking it had been awhile since I posted any pictures of the kids swim class. They just started another session. Tyler is in Ray (again) and he's doing extremely well.

He's still the smallest and youngest in the class so I'm sure he'll be in Ray awhile just working on endurance but otherwise he's doing such a great job.

Kendall is still in Parent Pike. She loves swimming but she doesn't love jumping off the side.

In fact she's getting more and more scared of it instead of better. Not sure what to do. I'm hoping once she gets into Pike by herself in April, things will change otherwise she'll be in Pike forever.

Gold Medal in Patience

Today Tyler took home the gold. That's right. Tyler's Basketball program through i9 sports gives out weekly medal's to one kid at the end of each game. Each week focuses on a different aspect of Sportsmanship. Now I have to say I didn't think Tyler would get a medal because honestly he is not the best sport out there. We've had to talk to him each week telling him how important it is to high five other teammates when they get the gold medal. And say "good game" to the opposing team players. It was getting down to the wire and every week he was getting quite upset about not getting the medal. But I would tell him he'd have to prove his sportsmanship before getting it. Now we were only one week shy of ending the season and today's lesson? Patience. This was quite fitting because he really is a good sport about not getting mad when he has to sit out or waiting to get back into the game. He's great about letting others have the ball. And for 7 weeks waiting for a gold medal in Patience. As the old adage says, Patience is a virtue. Congrats Tyler on a job well deserved.
